Mechanical Engineer

As a member of the Engineering Services team, the successful candidate will provide mechanical support to R&D Engineering and Manufacturing on new projects development and released products. The successful candidate will also be able to take mechanical engineering needs and identify what portion could be outsourced and by whom.
Activities will including formalizing mechanical drawings, performing verification of tolerance compliance, minimize violations, and generate mechanical BOMs, general assembly drawing for manufacturing (including cable harness), finalize tools and fixtures drawings for manufacturing, and generate screens and overlays. Interaction with Hardware Designers, PCB Designers, Mechanical Designers, Production Engineers, and Product Managers will be an integral part of the activity to ensure on time delivery of high quality designs. Also ability to write a statement of work, vetting mechanical design firms, and working with subcontracts.
The position requires the ability to function in a fast-paced high-tech environment with multiple overlapping deadlines.
• Design electronic chassis for new products and mechanical templates of modules.
• Generate mechanical drawings including tools and fixtures.
• Perform tolerance and violation analysis for all new designs before Product Release.
• Interface with cross-functional team members to resolve all issues.
• Generate mechanical BOMs.
• Generate mechanical assembly drawings (included cable assemblies).
• Generate screens and overlays for panels and PCBs.
• Verify mechanical layout of PCBs.
• Research and recommend mechanical components.
• Assist in assembling prototypes for preliminary testing.
• Support design verification, validation, and certification.
• Interface with Production Engineers to ensure proper release of new products.
• Recommend and implement process improvements related to product development.
• Work with cross-functional teams and outside contracts, manufacturers, and vendor on a daily basis.

Qualifications
• Knowledge of CoCreate OneSpace is needed.
• Knowledge of Adobe Illustrator would be an asset.
• Knowledge of manufacturing of high technology communication products.
• Knowledge of PCB layout.
• Sound understanding of materials, fabrication, finishing, and assembly process.
• Knowledge of stress & tolerance analysis, thermal & power management.
• Knowledge of EMC and safety standards.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent.
• 7+ years experience in mechanical design after graduation.
• Experience in a major electronic company in design and manufacturing.
• Design experience across all mechanical fabrication methods (sheet metal, plastic molding, machining, and casting). Tooling experience is desirable.
• Experience in outsourcing engineering activities.
