We are currently recruiting a Registered Nurse (RN) to work in partnership with Veterans Affair Canada (VAC) on “ as and when requested” basis for the London District Office.

The most recent required coverage includes but is not limited to:

• Full time coverage for the period of August 19- September 21
• Every Friday after September 21st, 2010
• One full time week in December (Dates to be determined)
• Two full time weeks in Feb 2011 (Dates to be determined)

Job Description:

The RN in this position will provide professional nursing consultation services and advice to the staff of the London District Office on a wide variety of nursing issues related to the care of adult and older adult clients.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to;

• The provision of professional advice, recommendations and follow-up from a nursing perspective related to client cases presented at Interdisciplinary Team meetings and case conferences.

• Request, review and summarize nursing and related health professional reports from other community agencies and services. Direct follow-up with the service providers may be required.

• Liaise with health care professionals, and agencies in the community and in long-term care facilities in relation to specific client cases.

• If required the RN may conduct comprehensive nursing assessments of clients in their homes or the facilities in which the clients reside..

• Make recommendations and give professionals approval or decline of various benefits or services for Veterans, in accordance with client’s policy for these benefits and services.

• The nurse may be required to provide information sessions to staff, clients and others on health related topics upon request.


Mandatory Qualifications:

• Graduation with a degree from a recognized university with an acceptable specialization in nursing - e.g. B.N.; BScN; BA with a Major in Nursing

• A certificate of current registration as a Registered Nurse in the province of Ontario

• A valid driver’s license in the province of Ontario

• Two (2) years cumulative full time experience in the last seven (7) years providing nursing care to adults

• Experience working with computers for client documentation in a Windows environment, including word processing, electronic mail and Internet.


Desirable Qualifications:

• Experience working with mental health and psychiatric programs, Physical Rehabilitation and providing care to adults in a long term care facility within the past seven (7) years is an asset to this position
