The Area Geochemist will design and manage geochemical surveys, analyze data, provide quality assurance/quality control of 3rd party assaying, audit analytical laboratories, and provide technical support to geologists and engineers involved in exploration for and evaluation of ore bodies. To plan and conduct tasks on assigned projects of some complexity and variability involving both internal and external personnel by applying knowledge and experience; a number of projects may progress simultaneously; propose new projects and participate in budget planning. Provide technical oversight to personnel working on projects. Work is assigned in terms of specific objectives and activities Position Requirements: • Geoscientific – familiarity with analytical techniques, sampling theory and practice, statistical treatment and interpretation of geochemical data; good understanding of geoscience sample collection, preparation and chemical analysis; knowledge of assay quality assurance/quality control methodology and laboratory auditing procedures; familiarity with National Instrument 43-101 reporting requirements; superior computer skills and good oral and written communication skills • Leadership/human resources - act as a project supervisor, participate in training junior staff; productive working relationships with other staff; good inter-personel skills • Logistics - propose and carry out/supervise technically sound projects • HSE (Health, Safety, Envrionment) - knowledge of all Vale Inco policies and procedures, and government regulations • Demonstrates proficiency in exploration-related technology, techniques and processes (including analytical methods, relevant associated computer software and databases) its application and general knowledge of related disciplines. • Geochem field survey design and operation • Assay QA/QC • Lab Auditing Educational/Experience Requirements: • 5-7 years of relevant experience • BSc or advanced degree in geology / geochemistry or a related discipline Professional Requirements: • Eligible for membership in APGO (Association of Professional Geoscientists of Ontario) At Vale Inco, we are looking for candidates who meet a specific and unique skill set.
