Field Operations Technician

Roadware is a Canadian company looking for qualified people throughout the United States and Ontario Canada. We prefer people that live close to an international airport because in most cases you start from home with the company providing ground and air transport to and from the job.

Job Description:
The job involves two technicians driving and operating a high tech vehicle specially modified to collect and analyze road and pavement data. The two technicians are required to collect data in the field for approximately 28 days in a row 7 days per week accompanied with approximately 10 days off at home in between rotations.

Successful candidates will be responsible for the accurate rating, data input and quality control of pavement distress information. He/she will execute action plans, which will maximize daily data collection as well as ensure that any repairs and preventative maintenance is conducted in a timely and efficient manner. Successful candidates will regularly and accurately perform administrative duties such as completing daily contacts reports, timesheets, expenses, etc.

Requirements:
Must possess degree or certificate in job related field such as: Electronics, Computers, Mechanical Engineering, Geography, Statistics or Civil Engineering
Must obtain valid passport for occasional border crossings at different ports of entry
Must maintain driving record in good standing to meet industry and company regulations
Must pass required physical examination in accordance with US DOT standards
Must pass criminal records check in accordance with CGP requirements
Must be able to work extended rotations in the field of up to one month away from home
Must be bondable, dependable and responsible
Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications
Canadian Tech’s must be able to obtain TN Visa
American Tech’s must be able to travel to Head Office in Canada for occasion training etc

Mechanical Duties:
Performs routine maintenance on vehicle
Schedules required maintenance for vehicle as per maintenance schedule
Performs daily walk around of vehicle and completes mechanical safety checklist
Ensures all camera and laser windows are clear of obstruction
Operates and drives vehicle in safe and proficient manner in accordance with local traffic laws and data collection protocol
Follows assigned routes carefully and facilitates proper data collection
Checks and services generator according to schedule
Diagnoses or troubleshoots basic mechanical problems
Checks voltages on cables, lines and wires.
Assists with replacing generators, oil changes and tires

Equipment Duties:
Performs daily quality checks on subsystems and data
Operates onboard subsystems utilizing a DOS based interface.
Runs software on various Windows XP computers and monitors their status
Performs real time monitoring of all subsystems, lasers and cameras
Orientates using maps and mapping software to maximize data collection efficiency
Gives real time directions to driver while still in motion
Logically determines best collection plan for following day based on weather patterns, traffic patterns and local construction areas
Enters data nightly into SQL database for project management
Maintains logs and timesheets on SQL server via internet or VPN connection.
Must have working knowledge of firewalls and local area networking.
Performs weekly maintenance on hardware and vehicle
Must be able to negotiate terms with local mechanics and service professionals
Keeps and Maintains organized onboard filing system
Sends weekly data shipment through customs to Canadian office for post processing
Maintains good communication with PM and provides detailed project update when required.
Negotiates maintenance and service appointments so as not to delay the data collection
Responsible for weekly company expense reports and checklists
Performs calibrations on all vehicle components and subsystems
Creates excel reports to track statistical deviance.
Must be able to reschedule flights and respond to last minute changes
Must be able to thrive in a close working environment for extend periods.
Verifies all subsystems are working within accepted parameters

To provide real time Video Logging and Inventory of all appurtenances
To provide accurate measurements of signs, medians, height clearances and other roadside furniture
To provide accurate satellite GPS information for photogrammetry
To provide accurate pavement distress measurements and geometrics information
To provide and meet all customer’s Pavement Management needs

Additional:
Per Diem - Each employee will be granted $40 per day while working in the field
Incentive plan – Paid out when planned mileage targets are beat.
Corporate Lodging – all hotels and accommodations are paid for by Roadware
Corporate Credit Card – each employee is granted an AMEX card for vehicle expenses
Any Hotel or Travel Points programs can be collected by staff
Overtime is paid after 40 hours per week at a rate of 1.5
Guaranteed 16 paid Statutory Holidays a year
Weather and Maintenance days can be claimed for 8 hours worked
All flight and travel costs to and from job site are incurred by Roadware
