Engineering Manager Main Functions: Organize, plan and manage the daily activities of the Engineering Department and staff including product development, creation, design, and improvement of products. The position requires controlling the engineering functions within policies and general guidelines established by the General Manager to maximize the effectiveness and acceptance of the Cleanfix Reversible Fan applications for sale to the North American market. As an integral component of the company it is also necessary to work with the sales team and the production department to provide the needed technical support and information as required. Reports to: General Manager Duties: • Represent the engineering department as a member of the management team • Plan and evaluate progress to meet engineering department objectives as established in conjunction with the General Manager • Coordinate and lead projects, making detailed plans to accomplish goals and directing the integration of technical activities • Interpret technical reports • Provide technical support and guidance with production and sales personnel to ensure that communication between engineering and other departments are efficient and trouble-free • Responsible for the review and approval of engineering designs in conjunction with the engineering staff • Direct, review, and approve product design improvements and changes • Communicate with the Service Technician to identify customer issues and generate resolutions • Oversee technical support to dealer technicians and end user customers • Working with the sales team and customers on new projects to ensure the unique customer requirements are met • Communicate with dealers and customers to obtain information required for new designs • Provide high quality fan kit designs and related documentation • Ensure on time delivery of drawings • Work with the Production Manager to improve production processes • Review engineering production performance as part of the overall company quality compliance principles • Lead the engineering team in a positive and supportive manner through a "lead by example" approach • Oversee the areas of performance appraisals and progressive discipline as required • Develop the engineering staff through mentoring and guidance • Work with the Novatrax team to implement ISO9000 standards (when ISO process is undertaken by company) • Additional duties as required from time to time Skills, Abilities, Knowledge Requirements: • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills • Ability to multi-task and prioritize competing responsibilities • Detailed understanding of the application of mechanical engineering design, troubleshooting, and system engineering. • Maintain a high level of concentration and creativity, exacting detail, and analyzing technical information • Proficiency in solving engineering problems using analytical techniques and engineering data • Knowledge of hydraulic, spring, piston, turbine and aerodynamic design • Detailed knowledge of Cleanfix Reversible Fans and the manufacturing processes • Comprehensive understanding of product and business requirements as well as a general knowledge of appropriate materials, components and technologies used in the industry • Understanding of the interrelationship of technologies and their effect on product design, including serviceability, manufacturability, safety and reliability • Ability to effective lead and manage the engineering team • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning and the coordination of people and resources • Proficient using Auto Cad, SolidWorks, and the ability to work with word processing, spreadsheet, and database software applications • Troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve problems through the interpretation and analysis of technical information • Ability to identify complex problems and analytically review related information to develop and evaluate options before implementing solutions • Capability to actively listen, taking the time to understand the points being made and ask appropriate questions • Thorough knowledge of company policies and practices • Strong oral and written English communication skills Working Conditions: • Daily working hours from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with a half hour unpaid lunch • Additional hours may be required during peak periods to meet deadlines and customer requirements • Work mostly in an office environment and may have to spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers • Physically able to deconstruct and reconstruct heavy equipment fan drive assemblies • Willing to extend duties beyond an office environment to the production area, shop environment, and outside as required • Faced with constant interruptions and must meet with other employees on a regular basis • Visibility requires maintaining a professional appearance and providing a positive company image to the public • Travel, as appropriate, in order to facilitate core responsibilities Employment Requirements: • A self-motivated individual with a strong desire to succeed by means of minimal instruction • Direct people to get the best out of them while receiving respect and co-operation • Mechanical Engineering Technology Diploma • Member of Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists • Minimum 5 years of related experience, of which at least 2 years must be in a managerial capacity Additional Assets • Professional Certificate in Engineering • Degree in mechanical engineering • Manufacturing and quality control experience in a heavy equipment environment • German language communication skills - verbal and written • Experience with Business Visions
