SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Under general supervision of Operations Manager, this position performs activities necessary to achieve manufacturing goals related to quality, delivery and cost. This role supervises the daily hourly manufacturing workforce. This position encourages employees to be cognizant of acceptable quality standards, product expenses, health and safety procedures and daily production goals.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Position general responsibilities are as follows:
• Supervise department manufacturing activities, including safe work practices, and employee relations.
• Meet with Lead Hands on a daily basis to co-ordinate work through the shop in an efficient manner to ensure on time production
• Communicates to the sales team when product is ready to ship
• Inputs and tracks man hours, vacation, sick time, WSIB etc.
• Reviews production quality, performance to schedule and cost data, recommends and/or makes improvements
• Schedules hourly vacation taking into consideration seniority and production requirements
• Resolves health and safety issues that arise
• Schedules resources as required by research and development and maintenance
• Follow disciplinary process as per Collective Agreement as it relates to employee performance and health & safety violations
• Ensure Human Resources is updated on employee relations
• Provides performance reviews to probationary employees
• Makes decisions in the absence of Operations Manager


WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Majority of time is spent in a manufacturing environment with machines in operation, moving tow trucks, vertical and horizontal moving equipment. The use of earplugs may be required in certain areas. This position, however, interacts with customer service and sales regularly as well.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
• Working knowledge of sheet metal manufacturing or similar technical field.
• Strong communication skills
• Problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
• Good Interpersonal Skills and ability to work with all levels within the organization
• Must be able to supervise and direct the work force while still demanding the respect of his employees.
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing methods would be an asset
• Experience in low volume, high complexity, custom fabrication manufacturing environment would be a plus.

SUPERVISION:
The Production Supervisor is responsible for directing the activities of the shop floor.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
• Minimum High School Diploma
• Some college or seminars in labour relations or supervision
• 1-3 years manufacturing experience including assembly and fabrication processes desirable
• Supervisory experience required
